In a massive collaborative effort, Vihiga County Governor Wilber Ottichilo joined hands with the Kenya Diabetes Management and Information Centre, World Diabetes Foundation, and Ministry of Health Kenya to launch "My Journal to Better Health: Type 1 Diabetes Diary for Kenyan Youth." Empowering Youth with Type 1 Diabetes:

This is an initiative for children with type 1 diabetes; special diaries to record their sugar levels at home are given to promote health through proper effective management and proactive care to safeguard against diabetes. Free diabetes testing was noted to be available at the Vihiga County Referral Hospital, where the residents could find such opportunities to get an early detection of the same.

Comprehensive Approach by the Government: The administration is setting up a Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) center in Hamisi to address problems of this kind emanating from diabetes and hypertension within the community. Vision for Improved Health: "My Journal to Better Health" reflects a shared commitment towards community well-being.

The Governor's commitment toward free testing, the establishment of an NCD center of excellence, and many other endeavors underlines a comprehensive vision toward better health outcomes for the people in Vihiga County. This is the beginning of several new dimensions—health awareness, empowerment, and community well-being, particularly that of the youth affected by diabetes.
